Day #2: The Team Leader

In the latest of our University Press Week posts, Project Management Team Leader Sarah Rendell talks about her passion for university press books.

As a Team Leader at Newgen, I’m fortunate to work with several different university presses and to be in a position not only to oversee titles as they move through production but also to help publishers solve problems and improve their production processes. My team works on innovative new titles from some of the UK’s most respected academic publishers.

I’m currently working with both Goldsmiths Press and Manchester University Press and have previously been part of teams working with UCL Press and Cambridge University Press.

I find working with the team at Goldsmiths University Press very inspiring and love that I’m able to work on ground-breaking titles that redefine the boundaries and definitions associated with academic publishing. One recent title for my team included Spotify links and QR codes for the reader to stream music tracks as they read, providing an immersive experience – engaging with the reader not only through the text but also through audio. And, from a very different viewpoint, it’s exciting and inspiring to work on books from Manchester University Press that engage fearlessly in important current affairs such as Brexit, proving the importance of rational academic discussion in the current political climate.

I feel immense pride in working with university presses and in the part that we play in making sure that their books are produced to the highest possible standard.

I am always interested and inspired to ‘meet’ the next exciting new title to land in my inbox and to hear about what publishers are planning for the future, whether it’s about eleventh-century monks, Brexit or a navigational aid to the apocalypse!
